Case Study
Philadelphia Zoo
Big Cat Falls

After participating in the select bid process for this project, the total cost was approximately 20% over budget. Hessert, utilizing its in-depth understanding of even the most customized construction projects, worked with the Owner and architect to Value Engineer the project to within the Owner’s budget.Utimately, Hessert was selected to create this stunning $20 million exhibit of lush habitats, waterfalls, and educational theaters for America’s First Zoo. Glass windows and mesh containment viewing areas allow visitors to come face to face with endangered big cats from around the world. Despite multiple subsurface conditions which cause unforeseen delays, Hessert was able to mitigate the delays, and open the Project as scheduled.

Following this project, Hessert was chosen to work with The Philadelphia Zoo in updating their historic Bird House and reconstructing their Hippo Exhibit as well.

…the project, despite its enormous complexity and critical path, was done on time and on budget. Our staff was very impressed with your team’s collaboration with us…
